Communication for Development: Facing the Challenges of Climate Change, Natural Resource Management, Risk Management and Food Security

This report, available only in Spanish, synthesises the experiences shared by over 150 participants in a virtual consultation on the role and potential of communication applied to issues such as climate change, natural resource management, risk reduction, and food security, with a particular focus on the Latin American context.

The virtual consultation was held in June and July 2008, and organised by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) programme Communication for Sustainable Development Initiative (CSDI) in collaboration with Onda Rural, the World Association of Community Radios for Latin America and the Caribbean (AMARC ALC), the Latin-American Association of Radial Education (ALER), and the Communication for Development Platform of Central America and Mexico.

The discussion highlighted the role of communication in strengthening the capacities of rural communities and vulnerable people to cope with the adverse effects and the new challenges brought by climate change.

This publication has been produced by CSDI, a global FAO programme funded by the Italian Ministry of Environment and Territory, which aims at mainstreaming participatory communication as a strategic asset for climate change adaptation, natural resource management and food security.
