Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Histórias Posithivas (Positive Stories) is a documentary series about people living with HIV/AIDS. There are 13 short films dedicated to issues such as living with the virus, nutrition, young people with HIV, and treatment, among others. The stories are about sero-positive people who tell how they have overcome the daily difficulties associated with the disease.

The documentaries were produced by the Department of Sexually Transmitted Diseases, AIDS and Viral Hepatitis (Departamento de DST, Aids e Hepatites Virais) of the Brazilian Healthcare Ministry. This film, entitled "HIV e outras siglas: saiba mais" (HIV and Other Acronyms: Learn More) provides basic information about HIV and AIDS in two episodes. It was designed for use in waiting rooms at doctors' offices and clinics.

The series has also been distributed to Specialized Attention Services (Servicios de Atención Especializada - SAE) for people with HIV. In addition to providing information that, according to the health ministry, contributes to a better quality of life, Histórias Posithivas is intended to complement the current knowledge base of health care professionals in order for them to be able to deal with the complex issues related to the disease, such as adherence to the medicines and prejudice.
