Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Community of Young Entrepreneurs

0 comments
The Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) has established the Community of Young Entrepreneurs, with an interactive website, in an effort to strengthen networking and mutual learning among advocates for entrepreneurship and youth. Discussions in the e-community focus on policy advocacy, services for entrepreneurs, access to information, and networking.
Communication Strategies

This initiative draws on information and communication technology (ICT) to facilitate the exchange of ideas and best practices for stimulating entrepreneurship, equipping youth to be entrepreneurs, and improving the business environment. An interactive website, community blog site, and Facebook page have been set up in an effort to spark conversation about issues such as these:

  • Policies - Young entrepreneurs can get involved in advocacy, speaking out in support of policies that make starting and operating a business as easy as possible;
  • Services - To start and expand their businesses, young entrepreneurs often need training, information, and legal and financial advice.
  • Information - Entrepreneurs depend on access to quality information about markets, economic data, and policies affecting them.
  • Networks - Acquiring networks for advice and mutual support is especially important to young entrepreneurs.

This ICT-based effort is participatory. CIPE asks: "Are you a young entrepreneur? Do you help promote entrepreneurship? Your insights, experience, news, and opinions are valuable to others. We invite you to share your views!" Success stories, challenges, questions, and details about awards/funding opportunities, events, and resources of interest are sought. Examples of topics of recent (January 2010) posts include: European Entrepreneurship Video Award 2010, Essay Competition on Youth Unemployment, and Changing the Image of Entrepreneurship Among University Students in Peru.
