- The impact of adult illness on children starts when a parent becomes ill.
- Most children want their parents to tell the truth about being HIV-positive.
- Property grabbing is common, with women and children especially vulnerable.
- Guardians have their own health problems. Many are elderly and some are HIV-positive.
- Study participants note that material support is what they need most.
