Bastiat Prize for Journalism 2007
The UK-based International Policy Network (IPN) is accepting articles and nominations for its 2007 Frederic Bastiat Prize for Journalism, awarded to writers whose published works elucidate with eloquence and wit the institutions of a free society, which, according to the IPN include: limited government, rule of law brokered by an independent judiciary, protection of private property, free markets, free speech, and sound science.
The award, named in honour of the 19th century liberal French satirist and
advocate of civil liberties, is open to journalists worldwide. A US$15,000
prize will be split among first, second and third place winners.
Authors from developing countries
are encouraged to enter. The scoring
system of the Bastiat Prize rates the influence of the publications in which
articles appear and the challenges of the author's immediate political
environment. Articles speaking to an audience who rarely hear the
principles of the free society defended rate particularly highly.
Finalists include not only American and British columnists
but journalists from countries such as Nepal, Malaysia, India and Dubai. The Bastiat Prize, according to its sponsors, seeks to encourage and reward voices raised in defence
of the free society-worldwide.
Please note that your submission must include the Bastiat Prize Submission Form [PDF format]. Submissions may be made online, by email, by fax or by post.
