Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

My organization Center for Injury Prevention Research, Bangladesh has been combatting to preventing drowning prevention. Drowning is very neglected issue and however it accounted for a huge number of death tolls. Study indicated that 50 children died in every in Bangladesh for drowning. My studies which I presented here is also focused on the drowning and its prevention. I found that community did not believe that drowning can be preventable as they conceptualized drowning as accident, god will and super natural. On top of that our health policy makers were also not thought drowning as serious public health problem in Bangladesh. In the context of dilemma, we conducted an extensive and rigorous research. We came up with the result that drowning causes 50 child death in daily and we did convince our policy makers through our research data. Aftermath our health department now working with us to develop a national drowning prevention strategy. They provide consent to work on the behavior change to the community. We started a project name “BHASA” where social behavior change communication is a key part. Here we education people fact to face and developed some materials like posters and we are providing some stories and data and  trying to make people understand that drowning can be preventable if they take some simple and easy measures.
