The Communication Initiative
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Hosted by Malaria Consortium, this webinar will share experiences and learning from the design and implementation of mHealth interventions for community health workers (CHWs) in Mozambique and Uganda under the inSCALE project. This session will focus on the collaborative process adopted by inSCALE for identifying barriers to CHWs motivation and performance, and discuss the development of acceptable and feasible solutions to these challenges. According to inSCALE's extensive research, these challenges include low motivation, under-performance, infrequent supportive supervision, and high attrition.

Speakers will be:

  • Dr. Karin Källander, Senior Research Advisor, Malaria Consortium – inSCALE aims and objectives
  • Daniel Strachan, Senior Research Associate, UCL Institute for Global Health – Formative research informing the design of sustainable and scalable mHealth interventions to improve volunteer community health worker motivation, retention and performance
  • Maureen Nakirunda, inSCALE Research Officer – Social sciences, Malaria Consortium Uganda – Process evaluation of a mHealth intervention in Uganda.

The online webinar and dialogue will take place at 3:00pm-4:00pm BST (GMT+1).
