Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Vaccines Today Communication Challenge

In 2014, Vaccines Today is inviting third-level university and college students in the European Union (EU) to enter its third annual competition to reward those who make creative videos about vaccination. Sponsored by Vaccines Europe, Vaccines Today is an online platform for discussing vaccines and vaccination that is designed to serve as an interactive forum for debate as well as a source of reliable information. The challenge for participants is to come up with a fun and creative video to enhance awareness of vaccination, improve acceptance of vaccination, and communicate its importance - hopefully with the potential to have a "tangible long-term impact".

Thirty percent of the score will come from Facebook "likes" (over a 2-week voting period), with the remaining 70% based on the decision of a jury that will include representatives of Vaccines Today, Vaccines Europe, an academic, a Member of the European Parliament, and a communications/design expert. A prize of €1,000 will be awarded for the winning video. The winner will be invited to Brussels, Belgium, to receive the prize. The second prize will be €500, and third prize will be €250.
