UNICEF, Children’s Science Museum & Rights of the Child - Lebanon
Organised by UNICEF, the walls of the Lebanon Children's Science Museum were decorated with photos and posters with animation and text, chosen by a group of children, of the Rights of the Child. The Museum allows children to experiment with communication technologies and some laws of nature, physics, mathematics and construction, through entertainment.
Communication Strategies
On Lebanese Children's Day, 500 Lebanese children visited the museum. One of the children who participated in decorating the walls spoke to the other children about her experience and urged others to participate in issues that matter to them. Visiting children had a Q & A session with the Minister of Social Affairs, and the Regional Director for the Middle East/North Africa Region. Pamphlets on the Rights of the Child in Arabic, English, French and Braille were distributed.

Key Points
The Children's Science Museum was determined to be the center most visited by children in Lebanon. UNICEF decided to decorate the inside walls with photos and posters on the Rights of the Child and add bubbles of text on the Rights to the animated characters of children and adults already on the outside walls. The Administration of the Museum suggested that children choose the Rights they felt should be expressed. A group of children were gathered. They had a brain-storming session to express their opinions, went to the museum for a tour, and then again had a discussion on the statements suggested earlier. Finally, a group of statements on the Rights was obtained from these children, to be placed inside the bubbles and added as captions to the children's posters.
