Teachers to be Involved in Pulse Polio Drive
This article details the latest steps taken to increase participation in the Pulse Polio campaign in the Indian state of Karnataka, as part of India’s ongoing efforts to eradicate polio. Part of this initiative has included multiple rounds of national and sub-national immunisation days (NIDs/SNIDs), during which all eligible children in participating states are expected to receive a dose of oral polio vaccine (OPV). In order to increase coverage of children under five who will be receiving OPV, the Panchayat administration, or local assembly, has made it compulsory for primary school teachers to participate in the upcoming four-day long SNIDs, beginning on May 20th. Part of this process involves identifying all eligible children and ensuring that they are vaccinated by the time the vaccination round draws to a close. According to Chief Executive Officer P. C. Jaffar, action will be taken against those teachers who fail to attend school on the indicated days.
