Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Research and Information on Ageing in Africa: An Annotated Bibliography

SummaryText
According to this book, one of the biggest problems in Africa is the fact that very little research is carried out on issues affecting older people and that the available research information is usually not collated, adequately disseminated or shared. This bibliography is an attempt to start the process of collation, dissemination and sharing of information on older people.

The book provides bibliographic and descriptive information of over 100 books, papers, video’s and websites on ageing issues in Africa. It is divided into four sections, the first with published materials and the second containing unpublished reports that are available from sources shown. The third and fourth contains journals and websites which covers work that has been carried out on older people on the African continent.

According to the publishers, this book, while by no means exhaustive, constitutes the first attempt at the continental level, and within the framework of the Organisation of African Unity, to collate information so far generated on ageing in Africa. As this is a first publication, the publishers state that it is by no means a complete record of ageing publications in Africa.
