After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Programme on Women's Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (PWESCR) Internship and Fellowship

The Programme on Women's Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (PWESCR)'s ongoing volunteer internship programme consists of a minimum of four consecutive calendar months of work in the Delhi (India) office (starting in May or June 2010). The programme is intended to be mutually advantageous: interns gain exposure to a range of women's human rights issues and knowledge of the South Asian region while working with PWESCR staff.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Legal and social research;
  • Assist in writing of PWESCR’s discussion papers;
  • Support in PWESCR’s advocacy efforts;
  • General support on various projects as per the requirement; and
  • Assist in day-to-day administrative work in the office.


PWESCR does not have paid internships and does not provide stipends for interns. Each intern is responsible for his or her own airfare and other transportation costs.

In addition, PWESCR serves as a fellowship sponsor for individuals who have received fellowship funding or deferred associate funding. Sponsored fellows must have outside funding and commit to at least four consecutive months of work in the Delhi, India, office. According to PWESCR, by serving as a fellowship sponsor, PWESCR offers fellows the opportunity to work on projects and to gain exposure to a wide range of international and regional women’s human rights issues. Application Info

Requirements include the following:

  • Demonstrate commitment to women’s rights.
  • Advanced degree in international relations, social sciences, economics, law, human rights, or women's studies.
  • Preference is given to applicants who can commit at least 6 months (or longer) or at minimum, four months.
  • Interested candidates should demonstrate: good written and oral communication skills, analytic thinking skills, and writing skills in English; excellent knowledge of one's field of study or work sector; and a working understanding of
    PWESCR's focus issues.
  • Knowledge of South Asian languages is an advantage.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to network and liaise in a diverse environment.
  • Ability to work autonomously, take initiative, manage multiple and competing priorities, and handle detail. Work to optimise teamwork, learning, and efficiency.
