Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

The Psychological and Emotional Development Programme, Pisotón, is the product of work and investigation which the Universidad del Norte de Barranquilla began in 1990. Its goal is to promote, through psycho-emotional education, strategies which promote the whole health of the students.
Communication Strategies

The Programme of Education and Human Development (El Programa de Educación y Desarrollo Humano) attempts to prevent psychological problems and to promote the whole health of children, through the use of stories, games, psychodrama, and the relating of personal experiences. The programme has become a tool in the prevention of psychological problems because it permits children to express all their emotions, feelings and conflicts, in addition to educating parents, teachers and the child himself about the process of his own development. The themes which are dealt with in each story are: separation anxiety, socialization, sexual identity and development, moral development, autonomy, and discipline.

Development Issues

Education, children, health.

Pisotón is aimed at children between the ages of 2 and 9 in an effort to positively influence the development of their personalities and their perception of other important figures in their lives, such as their parents, teachers, friends and government officials.
