The Communication Initiative
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

NEPAD CTA Photo Contest

The New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) Agency and the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation ACP-EU (CTA) are jointly organising a photo competition under the theme; “Looking at ICTs, agriculture, entrepreneurship and climate change in Africa through the eyes of women and the youth”. The awards aim to recognise excellence across a number of categories centred on the attraction, retention, and progression of women’s and African talents to further the African development agenda.

The contest is open to photographers of African nationality at least 18 years of age who want to demonstrate their abilities by examining the issues of Africa’s development in the areas of: Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs); Agriculture and Food Security and; Climate Change.

Category 01 – Youth/women, ICTs and entrepreneurship
Photos in Africa that depict youth or women making use of ICTs in entrepreneurial contexts in the agricultural sector.

Category 02 – Youth/Women and climate change
Photos in Africa that depict youth or women making use of ICTs in the context of climate change adaptation / mitigation and risk management

For each African region (Central Africa, East Africa, North Africa, Southern Africa, West Africa), the best photo of each category will receive a prize of EU800. The winning photographs will be on display at a NEPAD’s 10th Anniversary meeting to be held in October 2011 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The winners of each category will be awarded at the opening ceremony of that meeting.

The photo contest is open to amateur and professional photographers.

Contest rules include the following:

  • Submit photographs and descriptive data using the following email: photo-contest@cta.int
  • You may submit up to 3 photos per category.
  • Submissions must consist in original files of camera-made digital photographs three (3) megapixels or larger in JPEG, JPG, or TIFF formats.
  • Submissions of photographs should be accompanied by a completed submission form.
