Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

International Family Planning Perspectives is a quarterly, peer-reviewed research journal with emphasis on contraception, fertility, adolescent pregnancy, abortion, family planning policies and programmes, sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV/AIDS, and reproductive, maternal and child health. The format includes feature articles, summaries, special reports and viewpoints. All articles include summaries in Spanish and French.

The journal is intended to serve researchers, policymakers, programme administrators and service providers in developing countries. The journal invites submissions based on qualitative or quantitative research on such topics as
  • contraceptive practice and research
  • fertility levels, trends and determinants
  • adolescent pregnancy
  • sexual behaviour
  • HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases
  • public policies and legal issues affecting family planning and childbearing
  • programme operation, development and evaluation
  • information, education and communication activities
  • reproductive, maternal and child health
  • abortion incidence, determinants and consequences.
(The publishers note that because the journal receives funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development, it is prohibited under the Helms Amendment (P.L. 93-189) from publishing material that promotes abortion.)
