Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Global Dialogue Series - Global

In 2003, the International AIDS Economics Network (IAEN) launched the Global Dialogue Series. Every two months, an interview is conducted with an expert in the field of AIDS and economics and then posted on the internet. IAEN members are invited to post follow-up questions and comments that are then addressed by the interviewee. The goals of the Series are to provide timely information and to facilitate better communication between policymakers making funding decisions and officials implementing programmes worldwide.
Communication Strategies
Interviews are emailed to the IAEN Newsletter mailing list (see note below for subscription information). They are also posted at the IAEN site. Members of IAEN are encouraged to post questions or observations (especially those of a region- or topic-specific nature) using a survey tool that accompanies the interview. The comments are addressed in follow-up interviews, which are also posted on the site.

Interviewees include officials from organisations like the Global Fund, the United Nations, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the World Bank. For example, the first interview (January, 2003) featured the HIV/AIDS coordinator for the UN Millennium Project. The second interview, which took place in March 2003 with the Executive Director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis & Malaria.
Development Issues
HIV/AIDS, Economic Development.
Key Points
According to organisers, the AIDS epidemic is moving far too fast to rely on traditional means of global communications (international conferences, refereed journals, etc.).

To receive interviews via e-mail, visit the IAEN site and subscribe to the Monthly Newsletter, or send an e-mail to newsletter@iaen.org with "subscribe iaen_newsletter" in the body of the message.
