Family Planning Methods and Practice: Africa, Second Edition
The first edition of this book was published in 1983 and became widely known as "The Yellow Book." It was aimed at helping African people recognise how families and family planning affect their health and lives.
The second edition explores more ideas to the provision of services for family planning. It emphasises the point of prevention, education and the quality of clinical services. It also gives a detailed discussion on new approaches to contraception, i.e long-acting hormone implants. Some of the topics included are sexually transmitted infections, contraceptive methods, surgical contraception, and service delivery. Programme management and clinic management have been added to this new edition.
Both the first edition and the second edition address health benefit issues that deal with basic human behaviours that seek to influence future generations, today's families, and the day-to-day life of adolescents. This new edition still emphasises family planning methods and practice as they relate to Africa. It gives current information about the menstrual cycle and contraception.
This book has chapters on HIV infections, reproductive behavior, population change and an expanded section on "Providing Family Planning Services" which includes a chapter on education and counseling.
