Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Ethics Consultation with Javier Darío Restrepo: Journalism for Peace

This is a personalised consulting service (in Spanish) focused on themes of journalistic ethics and a "culture of peace", conducted by the Colombian expert Javier Darío Restrepo. It is implemented by the Fundación Nuevo Periodismo (FNPI) and supported by UNESCO. The main objectives include: identifying the problems and issues within and of professional news media values and the "culture of peace" of journalists in Latin America, providing a freely accessed space of reflection focused on these values and their application in the consolidation of a "culture of peace", and organising a consultation database on these values.
Communication Strategies
The project is based on an online question/answer format between Restrepo and the users. A website is provided where users can read the questions sent through email by journalists as well as Restrepo's replies to these questions, which often include references and links to bibliographical sources.
