Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Building a Culture of Human Rights: Workshop Manual

0 comments
SummaryText
This manual provides information, which is the basis for three hour human rights educational workshops aimed at the public, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), community based organisations (CBOs) and similar structures or organisations. The manual also contains information to assist facilitators in running such workshops.

The manual was produced by the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC), which is the main body set up to deal with violations of human rights. It is provided free of charge and may be photocopied and further distributed, provided the SAHRC is credited.

The workshop aims to educate and inform participants about:
  • human rights, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights;
  • the structure of the SAHRC;
  • its functions, aims and objectives;
  • how to access the SAHRC;
  • what type of cases it deals with;
  • its powers; and
  • what happens to a case once it has been reported.
