AIDS and Older Persons: The View from Thailand

Published in 2002, this research report addresses the impact of the AIDS epidemic for older adults in Thailand. The analysis is based primarily on interviews with informants about individual people with AIDS and their families; direct survey interviews with AIDS parents and a comparison group of older persons; and in-depth interviews with AIDS parents.

The authors begin by presenting data as to the numbers of infected and affected older persons in Thailand. Next, they sketch a general framework for assessing effects on older-age Thai parents. After detailing their data sources, Knodel and Saengtienchai present their results.
