Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

An Invitation: Showcasing Innovation: Media and Communication for Disaster Risk Reduction

This invitation calls for submissions of "examples of good practice and that meet the Hyogo Framework Priority Action 3: 'Use knowledge, innovation and education to build a culture of safety and resilience at all levels'" for the Third United Nations World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR).

From BBC Media Action: "Have you used media or communication to help communities at risk become more aware of disaster risks and build their resilience? If so, we want to hear from you as we aim to showcase creative and effective approaches of media and communication at our event which will take place at the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai, Japan on 16 March, 2015.

We’re interested in receiving examples that are:

  • Innovative
  • Have reduced disaster risk and improved resilience
  • Can be replicated by others as good practice
  • Are specifically targeted to people who are at risk of hazards"
