Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Music Against Poverty Contest

0 comments

The European Commission has launched the Music Against Poverty Contest, which calls young Europeans between ages 15 and 25 to submit a song expressing support for the fight against poverty in the world. Each participant will create an original song on the general issue of development, and notably on the eight Millennium Development Goals. The winners - selected through online voting and a jury of music professionals - will be awarded a professional studio recording of their song and will have the opportunity to perform during the European Development Days in December 2010 in Brussels, Belgium. The music contest is part of the "I fight poverty campaign", dedicated to raise awareness among teenagers about the European Union's action in the field of development cooperation.

Each song entered has to:

  • be about the fight against poverty worldwide or development cooperation;
  • last a maximum of 5 minutes; and
  • be submitted before the deadline date.

Each entrant will have a personal web page to advertise his/her song and explain why s/he wants to join the fight against poverty.
