Five Steps to Community Assessment for American Indian and Alaska Native Head Start Programs

This booklet, intended for at American Indian and Alaska Native community organisers, is a 5-step plan for organising and carrying out a community assessment that meets federal grant regulations including designing data collection, gathering data, reviewing and analysing data, and making decisions based on the community assessment.

Appendices in this resource are designed to support communities with grant applications that apply to community assessment, including instructions for applying, a data analysis guide, a system for choosing a sample population, and a glossary. Parts of it are intended specifically for Head Start grant applications. It contains sample questionnaires and data organisers that prepare community organisers for soliciting grant funding for a community Head Start programme.
