Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

In Women’s Hands: A Film on Women, HIV and Hope

SummaryText
In Women's Hands seeks to create discussion and awareness around the HIV/STI epidemic among women and the importance of microbicides.* The film, produced by the Global Campaign, seeks to speak to the need for microbicides and their potential role in helping women.

By disseminating the film as part of a global effort, it is hoped that organisations and individuals will host their own screenings or use the film at meetings, conferences and other events. The film is offered in both 11 and 26-minute versions and is available in DVD, VHS, PAL and NTSC formats.

The film is accompanied by a Discussion Guide. Fact sheets and other information about microbicides and Campaign tools can be downloaded from the Global Campaign's website - click here.

* "Microbicides" refers to a range of different products that can help to prevent the sexual transmission of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) when applied topically. Scientists are testing many substances to see whether they help protect against HIV and/or other STDs, but no safe and effective microbicide is available to the public yet.
