Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Immunize Europe Forum

SummaryText

"While there are many online platforms available to spread misinformation about vaccines around the world, a platform for sharing what works in promoting immunization, increasing vaccination coverage and disseminating evidence-based information has been lacking."

In April 2016, the WHO Regional Office for Europe (EURO) launched this information-sharing platform to increase peer-to-peer exchange among professionals working in immunisation–related fields. The Immunize Europe Forum offers them a way to connect and share resources, news, upcoming events, lessons learned, and ideas.

The need for transparency, accountability, and information sharing was identified in the European Vaccine Action Plan 2015-2020 (EVAP), adopted by all European Member States in 2014. The Forum will showcase European Immunization Week (EIW) awareness-raising activities and resources, but will also help support EVAP's goals throughout the year by allowing professionals across the Region to share best practice.

The Forum is intended to cover a broad range of topics - such as the April 2016 switch from trivalent oral polio vaccine (tOPV) to bivalent OPV (bOPV), removing poliovirus type 2 - through content created and posted by its users. Sections include access to discussions, image and video galleries, a calendar, a timeline, and resources and materials for download. The views expressed are those of the users, and the site is moderated only to the extent that common sense dictates.
