Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Author Jonathan C Buru, January 29 2014:         I am honoured to talk about a great leader, Nelson Rolihlahla Madiba Mandela. Let me call him Mandela the great for the purpose of this article.

Former President Mandela was a great leader who persevered against the ruthlessness of the apartheid system in South Africa for more than three decades. This on its own teaches us that for someone to succeed in whatever difficult situation, s/he needs to persevere.

Throughout his incarceration, Mr. Mandela learnt how to control his anger against the enemy and this helped to win the war against the enemy.

After he was released from Robben Island where he spent about 18 years, he went onto to win the first democratic elections in 1994, whereupon he made history as the first black President of the republic of South Africa.

Thereafter, Mr. Mandela said that people of South Africa should live in harmony and people should not discriminate against one another, white and blacks should live together in harmony. From that point, there was the Truth and Reconciliation Commission whose aim was to identify those who during the apartheid era killed or wronged others in one way or another and forgave them. This showed that Mr Mandela was a great man who inspired the world to forgive others no matter how others have wronged us.
