Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

This handbook was created to define the key indicators for monitoring and evaluating the Strategic Support Objectives (SSO) of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)'s HIV/AIDS strategy, to promote the use of standard indicators for the monitoring and evaluation of USAID's HIV/AIDS country programmes through the Results Review and Resource Request (R4) process, and to facilitate the adoption of global indicators for the monitoring and evaluation of programmatic areas that will be covered by USAID's HIV/AIDS programmes in the future.

Where is the handbook? What are the key indicators? Who are the indicators directed towards.

Editor's note: The Handbook is available online and the link to it is indicated under the summary description. It is a PDF document on the Synergy Project website. It is a 129 page document which is full of indicators. Too many for us to list within the summary.
