Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize

The Conrad N. Hilton Foundation invites nominations for the Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize for organisations that have made extraordinary contributions toward alleviating human suffering anywhere in the world. Nominations are sought from throughout the international community.

The US$1.5 million prize is presented annually to an established nonprofit, charitable, or non-governmental organisation. Nominees must be organisations, not individuals. The prize is not a grant based on future goals, but an award for recent and historic accomplishments.

Nominated organisations must have an operating budget larger than US$500,000.

Since the prize is not a grant, nomination material should emphasise the organisation’s accomplishments rather than future goals. Both historic and recent performance should be addressed. Following are suggested criteria to consider in describing the nominee’s work:

  • Extraordinary contributions toward alleviating human suffering
  • Established record of achievement
  • Innovation in programme design
  • Organisational capacity and administrative efficiency
  • Demonstration of long-term impact
