Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Call for Creative Photography: Diverse Perspectives on the Environment, Citizenship and Volunteering

ICVolunteers invites photographers to share their perspective on the topic: "Diverse Perspectives on the Environment, Citizenship and Volunteering”. As part of the celebrations of its tenth anniversary, ICVolunteers is launching a call for creative photography supporting ICVolunteers' emphasis on how much civil society can contribute to good citizenship through volunteer activities and keen knowledge of environmental issues.

This is an opportunity for volunteer photographers to promote and enhance their work through participation in an International Photo Exhibition at "La Galerie", 17 rue de la Coulouvrenière, Geneva, Switzerland, from October 7 to 30 2009.

Photographs will be evaluated based on:

  • relevance of the photographs to the proposed theme
  • the artistic quality of your work from the perspective of originality, composition, treatment of light, and aesthetics

Selected photographs will be exhibited along with works of internationally recognised photographers at all events related to the exhibition.

ICVolunteers reserves the right to publish any and all competition photos in their various communication tools and on the website, crediting and giving visibility to the photographer.
