Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText

The AIDSFree HIV Testing Services (HTS) Community of Practice is an electronic information sharing tool to help achieve the HIV testing target set out by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS)'s 90-90-90 strategy to help end the AIDS epidemic: by 2020, 90% of all people living with HIV will know their HIV status. The Community provides a forum to connect with and learn from peers working in HIV testing services around the world. Community members ask questions, share lessons learned, access the latest literature and news in HIV testing, and learn from experts - all through a mobile-friendly, email-based format.

Through the Community, members also receive updates on AIDSFree's upcoming HIV Testing Services webinars on topics including HTS guidance, self-testing, male engagement in testing, index case testing, and more. The Strengthening High Impact Interventions for an AIDS-free Generation (AIDSFree) Project is a 5-year cooperative agreement funded by the United States (US) President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and managed by the US Agency for International Development (USAID)'s Office of HIV/AIDS. Focus areas of this initiative include: promoting gender equality and women's empowerment in HIV responses; promoting high-quality HIV testing and counseling for individuals and linking it to care; reaching more people with appropriate combination, biomedical, structural, and behavioural prevention services; eliminating mother-to-child-transmission of HIV; delivering life-saving therapies to those who need them most; and accelerating scale-up of voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC).

The Community is hosted through Knowledge Gateway, an electronic platform that supports virtual knowledge networks and communities of practice in health and development.
