Working with Private Investment in Entertainment and SBCC

Summary
A panel comparing the challenges, solutions and potential pitfalls of working with mainstream private investment in entertainment and SBCC properties. Each private funder has a set of commercial interests that they need satisfied in order to consider a project investment-worthy. Things like "ROI" - Return on Investment - are sometimes less important in SBCC projects, where impact measurement might be more important than actual financial return and profitability. This panel will aim to educate its mixed audience and spur discussion about funding experiences in the past among all attendees of the session. People will be encouraged to share their experiences with investors - what has worked, what hasn't worked, and how it related to the project goals along impact and entertainment lines.
Discussion/Implications For The Field
As the fields of SBCC and Entertainment increasingly cross-over, a mutual understanding of private funders' motivations, goals and needs will become increasingly important. This session should aid in more successful approaching of funders, tailoring pitches to specific interests, and being able to execute on co-productions with a higher success rate. These conversations are usually being had behind closed doors and a lack of transparency has made film funding a classically difficult topic - this session should shine some light behind closed curtains.
